This is a photo of the J.W. Shoppach home in Benton, Arkansas. Built in 1852, it was Benton's oldest and most historic antebellum home. The picture is a reproduction of a century-old daguerrotype made just after the house was completed; the home remained much the same in 1952. It served as Union headquarters when Benton was occupied by Federal troops in 1863, and earlier, was the scene of a Confederate flag presentation when Benton women presented a handmade Confederate flag to Confederate troops destined for the Battle of Corinth, Mississippi.
