This photo depicts the Alcoa plant in Bauxite, Arkansas, built by Alcoa, but because of a monopoly Alcoa had, the federal government allowed this plant to become the Reynolds Metals Hurricane Creek plant. Prior to the use of bauxite in the manufacturing of aluminum, Arkansas bauxite was used first for making baking powder in Mabelvale. Bauxite is also used in refractories, chemicals, water softeners, treatment and clarification of mineral and animal oils, and more.
